ROODEPOORT - The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) on Thursday said there was nothing improper about the Roodepoort licencing and testing station.

The station closes its gates at 9am to accommodate only 150 people a day.

Frustrated motorists said they were turned away from the facility several times despite signage at the gate indicating that the office operates until 3pm.

JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said to serve motorists adequately, they have to control the numbers of people they assist on a daily basis.

"The reason why the number for admission has to be controlled is because the learners' licence test takes an hour to perform, a driving license test will take 20 minutes for the parking test and 40 minutes for the road test."

Minnaar says the amount of people that can be tested on a given day is limited.
