CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Department of Transport said on Monday it would continue to focus on negligence on the provincial roads as the festive season draws to a close.

Two motorists who remained fine free over the festive season period will win R25,000 each later this month.

This was part of the department's Safely Home Road Safety Reward campaign aimed at rewarding motorists who showed good behaviour on the roads over the holiday season.

The provincial transport department's Siphesihle Dube said, "I think more and more road users are shifting their mind frames and behaviour. We continue with our efforts to target bad behaviour. There is a lot of emphasis on enforcing and encouraging road safety through our reward."

The festive season death toll on the country's roads has risen to 1,300.
