CAPE TOWN - Table Mountain authorities said on Tuesday they believe a kind act led to the death of a man who fell from Lion's Head.

Ibraahim Saalie slipped and fell to his death while hiking with family on Monday morning.

It is believed he fell despite efforts by his brother and other hikers to save him.

South African National Park (Sanpark)'s spokesperson Merle Collins said they have conducted an investigation into Saalie's death.

"After any incident, we launch an investigation and preliminary reports are filed. Mr Saalie gave way to an oncoming hiker and in that time slipped and fell to his death."

She said they still have to find out if somebody can be prosecuted.

"It's still very early and we're still compiling a report. We must still speak to the family, who are obviously traumatised."
