JOHANNESBURG - The Higher Education Ministry on Monday said a hotline was established to help students who were still not registered to further their studies post matric.

Various higher education facilities are once again dealing with large numbers of late registrations.

In 2012, a parent who had accompanied her son to register at the University of Johannesburg (UJ)'s Kingsway Campus was killed during a stampede.

Thousands of prospective students lined up outside UJ, hoping to get inside the campus to submit their late applications.

This year, the university says it is not accepting applications brought physically.

Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande says there are still places available at tertiary institutions.

"We have got a website and a call centre so learners can call to find out which institutions still have spaces and the fields of study."
