ANC to review teachers, health professionals salaries
The ANC has decided to set up a presidential commission to review teacher and health professional salaries.
JOHANNESBURG - Teachers and health professionals in the public sector could have their salaries boosted later this year, if a presidential commission goes ahead as planned.
One of the resolutions the ANC adopted at its national conference in Mangaung in December was to establish a commission to examine how much teachers and doctors are paid.
Teachers were told at the Mangaung conference that school inspectors would be reintroduced into schools whether they liked it or not.
But the South African Democratic Teachers' Union (Sadtu) is not in favour of the idea.
Sadtu general secretary Mugwena Maluleke said, "[The ANC] was there [in Mangaung] to just find faults and then thereafter leave the system.
"That is why we have these problems in the education sector, it is because of [the ANC]."
The conference also resolved that teachers will need to resign from their jobs if they want to be local government councillors as well.
