ANC ready to celebrate its success - Mantashe
ANC’s Gwede Mantashe says the party is ready to celebrate its history and 101st birthday.
DURBAN - African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Gwede Mantashe on Sunday said educating society about the party's history was the biggest success of its year-long centenary programme.
The ANC is hosting a celebratory concert in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday, during which President Jacob Zuma may speak.
But Mantashe says today's event will not be a day for long speeches because formal events are set down for next week.
"The president will say a few words but it is not an event for speeches but more of an event for celebration.
"We are celebrating because we did well in the country."
The ruling party's newly elected National Executive Committee is due to meet next week on Friday ahead of a major rally the following day.
There may also be a smaller function on the party's actual 101st birthday on January 8, 2013.
