MPUMALANGA - A teenager from Mpumalanga who was involved in an accident that killed five other teenagers died in hospital on Wednesday.

The accident occurred on New Year's Eve after the 16-year-old lost control of his parents' car.

On Tuesday, the Department of Community Safety in Mpumalanga was still trying to determine if the teenager should be charged for the accident that had already cost five lives.

The 16-year-old took his parents' bakkie on New Year's Eve to transport about 13 people.

Police said the car was travelling towards Dwarsloop when the bakkie overturned in Bushbuckridge.

He lost control and rolled off the road and crashed into a tree.

The car overturned and five of the teenagers died from injuries sustained at the scene.

On Wednesday morning, the teenage driver and another occupant, who were injured, died in hospital.

Provincial Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison Department spokesperson Joseph Mabuza said police were investigating the crash.
