JOHANNESBURG - The South African National Blood Services (SANBS) has again appealed to the public to donate blood for the remainder of the festive season.

It said the high number of road accidents have significantly increased demand.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) last week announced that the national road death toll since the beginning of December had passed the 1,000 mark.

The blood service's Ravi Reddy on Sunday said their inland stock was at a two-day supply level.

Reddy said it needs to be at a five-day level in order to meet demand.

"We would really appeal to all blood group donors to donate blood if they can."
