Police make quick arrest
Metrorail says it is impressed with how quickly the police arrested a man in connection with a driver murder.
PRETORIA - Metrorail has applauded the police for arresting a man in connection with the murder of one of its drivers at a railway station in Pretoria.
JP du Plessis was found with several stab wounds, after he stopped his locomotive in Hermanstad on Christmas Day.
His two cell phones were also missing, when he was found.
Metrorail spokesperson Lillian Mofokeng said the staff was quite encouraged by the speed at which law enforcement agencies and Metrorail's Protection Services and Security Unit reacted to the crime.
"We are very encouraged by the speed at which they managed to get to this [the arrest] at such a short space of time."
Mofokeng said staff at the company held a memorial service for their slain colleague and assured his family of their support.
"We will continue to support them as the Metrorail family and their loss is our loss."
Mofokeng said the du Plessis family was continually in the staff's prayers and thoughts.
