Minstrel champs ready to defend title

Current Cape Minstrel Carnival champions believe they have what it takes to keep the title.

CAPE TOWN - Two time and current Cape Minstrel Carnival champions, The D6 Entertainers, says they are ready and waiting for the upcoming "Tweede Nuwe Jaar" street parade.

The street parade is held on 2 January each year, where thousands of minstrel troupes parade through the city's streets, donning colourful outfits and painted faces.

Not wanting to give away any their secrets, The D6 Entertainers' Maalick Laatoe says they have got special plans to entertain the spectators this year.

Laatoe says they are going all out to retain their title.

"Every year we set ourselves benchmarks and one of the benchmarks is to compete in every all the 17 items. We've put in extra hard work in all items."
