JOHANNESBURG - Nelson Mandela has now spent 12 nights in hospital.

He is receiving treatment for a recurring lung infection and underwent a procedure to remove gallstones.

The presidency's last statement on the former president's health was released on Tuesday evening.

It said Madiba was doing well, and doctors were not in a hurry to discharge him.

He was transported from his Qunu home in the Eastern Cape to a Pretoria hospital for extra care and treatment.

Meanwhile, the Nelson Mandela museum in the Eastern Cape is abuzz with visitors asking questions about Madiba.

Marketing Manager Nokuzola Tetani said, "A lot of the people come in and ask about Madiba's condition because they are concerned."

The presidency has been heavily criticised about the lack of communication and transparency surrrounding Madiba's health.
