Union Buildings officer arrested for murder
The officer has been charged on two counts of murder and three of attempted murder.
PRETORIA - Eyewitness News understands a police officer deployed to provide security at the Union Buildings and presidential estate has been charged on two counts of murder and three of attempted murder.
The crimes took place two weeks ago in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria.
The 28-year-old constable has been released on R15,000 bail.
It is alleged that Shadrack Maripane got into an altercation with a man because he was chatting to his girlfriend.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) said Maripane left and returned a short while later with a handgun.
The IPID's Tiyani Sambo said the victim was shot twelve times.
"The policeman was charged with two counts of murder and three of attempted murder. He appeared in the Mamelodi District Court on Friday.
Several bystanders were also wounded.
