The SAHRC has been given until late January to submit its report on the strip club.

Mavericks in Cape Town

CAPE TOWN - The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has been given until late January to determine if exotic dancers at Mavericks are in fact victims of human trafficking.

The matter was heard in the Western Cape High Court on Tuesday.

The Home Affairs Department took legal action against the Cape Town strip club, claiming that management was flouting immigration laws by bringing foreign dancers into South Africa.

Judge Siraj Desai ordered the SAHRC to finish its report into the club, and said Home Affairs and Mavericks should file legal documents by no later than February 8.

The Commission wants to determine whether the rights of the dancers were infringed.

The SAHRC is also looking into claims of human trafficking.

The matter has been postponed to the February 15.
