3 more deaths on Western Cape roads

Another three people have been killed in separate Western Cape accidents.

CAPE TOWN - Three more people have died on Western Cape roads on Monday.

Two people died in a head-on collision on the N1 near Laingsburg early Monday morning while two others were seriously injured.

In Pacaltsdorp, a pedestrian was knocked over and died at the scene.

Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said these road deaths bring the total number of fatalities over the long weekend to nine.

Africa said, "According to witnesses the vehicle swerved from one side of the road to the wrong side and collided with the oncoming traffic."

Meanwhile, five people have burnt to death in a taxi accident in Mpumalanga.

The victims include three women and two children.

The taxi was on its way to Mozambique when it crashed and caught alight on Monday night.

Mpumalanga Community Safety spokesperson Joseph Mabuza said, "The driver of the taxi lost control and hit a tree. The victims were burnt beyond recognition."
