Motorist narrowly escapes accident
A medical helicopter had to transport a woman in serious condition to George Hospital.
CAPE TOWN - A Cape Town woman said on Sunday she could not fathom how she survived a serious accident on the N1's notorious "road of death" between Beaufort West and Laingsburg.
Four people, including a pregnant woman died in the crash near Prince Albert road.
Rushing to the scene of the accident, officials found two mangled wrecks.
Traffic on the N1 stood still for some time as authorities removed the bodies and cleared the debris from the road.
A medical helicopter transported a woman in a serious condition to George Hospital.
Another motorist said she narrowly missed being caught up in the accident.
"I was hit by objects from that vehicle.
"And my roof, you can see, it was one of the bodies.
"I don't know how I survived."
The central Karoo's road death toll for the long weekend currently stands at six.
