ZIMBABWE - State media confirmed on Sunday that US billionaire and Microsoft founder Bill Gates arrived in Zimbabwe for a six-day private visit.

Gates, his wife, Melinda, and two children arrived in the country on Thursday aboard a private jet.

They touched down on Buffalo Range Airport near Masvingo and proceeded to Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve.

The Sunday mail said the family is staying at the exclusive Singita Pamushana Lodge.

These kinds of high profile visits are encouraging to Zimbabwean authorities, who are trying to restore the tourism industry after years of decline.

Gates, through his foundation, is currently funding projects in Harare to tackle urban poverty.
