CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Education MEC Donald Grant on Thursday said the marking of the 2012 matric scripts was expected to wrapped up on Friday.

He said examiners were in the process of marking the last few exam papers.

The results will be released by Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga on 3 January.

But grant says not everything has been completed just yet.

"The last lap is actually the uploading of the marks and the data as well as the standardisation process before the results are given back to us."

In 2011, the province achieved the highest pass rate of 82.9 percent.

The country managed a 70.2 percent pass rate.
