Doctor faces 319 fraud charges
A doctor facing 319 fraud charges was released on R20,000 on Thursday.
GA-RANKUWA - A doctor arrested on Thursday on 319 charges of fraud was released on R20,000 rand bail.
The man was arrested for allegedly making illegitimate claims to Bonitas Medical Scheme as well as the Labour Department's compensation fund between 2008 and 2012.
The doctor, who was practising at the George Mukhari hospital in Ga-Rankuwa, also allegedly posed as a gynaecologist when he was only qualified as a registered general practitioner.
The Hawks spokesperson Paul Ramaloko said, "We took him to the Brits Magistrate's Court [on Thursday] on 319 counts of fraud.
"He was instructed to re appear on the 21st of February 2013."
Meanwhile, Bonitas principal officer Bobby Ramasia issued a stern warning to other criminals posing as healthcare practitioners.
"They should not come with plans to defraud the scheme. We won't stop at anything to make sure that we actually crush them."
