PRETORIA - Former president Nelson Mandela looks set to spend a fifth night in hospital as he recovers from a recurring lung infection.
The 94-year-old was admitted to Pretoria's 1 Military Hospital on Saturday.
According to the statement released by the Presidency late on Wednesday, doctors attending to Madiba say he has made progress over the past 24 hours.
Presidency spokesperson Mac Maharaj said, "Doctors are satisfied with the way in which he is receiving treatment."
But there is still no word on when the former statesman will be released from hospital.
Speaking to Eyewitness News , staff leaving the facility said Mandela's ward remained off-limits.
He is closely being monitored by an experienced team of doctors after a second major lung infection in less than two years.
In January 2011, Mandela was treated at Johannesburg's Milpark Hospital for a respiratory infection.
Meanwhile, messages of support continue to stream in for the global icon.
