We will defeat Zuma - Lili
An ANC executive member in the WC is adamant that Zuma will not serve a second term.
CAPE TOWN - An executive member of the ANC's largest region in the Western Cape on Tuesday said victory for President Jacob Zuma at Mangaung is not a foregone conclusion.
Last week, the ANC in the province backed Kgalema Motlanthe to take over the party's top job at the elective conference.
The province's nominations conference had collapsed twice because of problems with the verification of branch delegates.
Gauteng and the ANC Youth League also support Motlanthe.
But it is widely expected that Zuma will retain his position thanks to support from the majority of the provinces.
The Dullah Omar region's Andile Lili is a passionate supporter of Motlanthe.
He said he is going to Mangaung with a clear goal in mind.
"We can never allow President Zuma to lead us again."
Lili is confident that Motlanthe has more support than some may realise.
"The numbers that you see in the media are incorrect. We believe we will defeat Zuma come Mangaung."
However, Motlanthe has not indicated whether he will accept the nomination.
The province also wants the latest issue of farm protests discussed at the conference.
They believe farmworkers are being exploited.
The conference gets underway on Sunday.
