CAPE TOWN - The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) said on Monday it was looking into an incident in which a man was shot dead, allegedly by police in Bishop Lavis.

The incident occurred when a group of community members apparently attacked a police vehicle, with two officers inside on Sunday afternoon.

A man died on the scene after a shot was fired.

The police's Andre Traut said, "We have reason to believe members of the community who attacked police officers made an attempt to protect gang members. We will not tolerate attacks on our police officers and we will make every endeavour to apprehend those responsible."
