SOWETO - A Soweto father has been arrested in connection with his son's death.

The decomposing body of 11-year-old Mthokozisi Sibeko was discovered in a dustbin in the family's garage in Jabavu.

The child was missing for a week.

Sibeko's father made the discovery at the weekend.

The boy's neck and both his legs had been broken and blood was allegedly found on his father's clothing.

Police spokesperson Kay Makhubela said, "Some of the father's clothing had blood [on it]. His clothes were also found in the yard.

"The doctor also confirmed that the boy's neck was broken, so the charge has been changed to murder."

On Monday, forensic pathologists combed the area where the boy's body was discovered.

Relatives were reluctant to speak to the media.

Post-mortem results are expected to be released later this week.

The boy, who was in grade four, was last seen at a house nearby before going to a local supermarket to buy bread.
