Debbie Calitz gets bail

Somali pirate kidnap survivor Debbie Calitz was released on R1,000 bail.

Debbie Calitz was released on Monday on R1000 for drug-related charges.

PRETORIA - Somali pirate kidnap survivor Debbie Calitz, her two children and six other accused were released on bail after appearing in the Hatfield District Court on Monday.

Police arrested the group at a house in Constantia Park on Friday, following a tip-off about an alleged drug party.

The group includes Calitz, Matthew Beukes, Jarryd Lottering, Timothy Lombard, Jason Cross, Nicolas Fourie, Zane Coles, Kerri-Anne Cross and Donavan Coles.

The accused got R1,000 bail each.

Calitz and her former partner Bruno Pelizzari spent nearly two years in captivity and were released six months ago.

"Sorry, [I have] no comment, especially not today," Calitz told journalists outside court.

Her lawyer Layton Dixon said, "The charges are of illegal possession of dagga."

Her children are among the accused.

Police apparently found a dagga plant, along with a bag of the drug and another packet containing magic mushrooms.

The matter was postponed to January 30.
