CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Blood Transfusion Service says there has been a decrease in donors coming forward.

More blood reserves are urgently needed over the holidays.

The organisation supplies 700 units of blood to provincial hospitals each day.

The service's Marlize Mouton has urged members of the public to donate.

"At the moment the province has a four and a half day blood stock. Ideally, we should have a five to seven day blood stock."
