WC liquor licence act gets finalised
The WC liquor licence act although suffering a few glitches will be finalised soon.
CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Economic Development MEC Alan Winde on Thursday admitted the Provincial Liquor Act was still suffering from teething problems.
The new legislation has been in place for the past seven months.
It gives residents a chance to comment on whether a liquor licence may be approved for an outlet in their neighbourhoods.
Winde said he met with several liquor industry role players on Thursday to find out if there were any ongoing issues with the act.
"There are some issues that have been raised. This then looks at issues that we need to look at changing regarding regulation, legislation or even just ironing out processes and procedures."
He said they were excited about a certain aspect of the law.
"The act allows us to put together an education fund. We're going to look at using the fine money that comes into the abuse or misuse of the licensing system to then help the negative side of alcohol abuse."
