Home Affairs gears up for festive rush
The Home Affairs DG said more staff will be deployed at borders for the festive season.
JOHANNESBURG - The Home Affairs Department is expecting high traffic volumes during the festive season, Director Deneral Mkuseli Apleni said on Thursday.
He said the department identified a number of ports including, Beitbridge, Maseru, Lebombo, Oeshoek and Kopfontein, which were likely to be busiest.
Apleni said they will deploy more staff and extend working hours to make people's trips safer and more efficient.
"Additional capacity, which will see the deployment of over 300 Home Affairs staff members and extension of working hours, [will be added]."
Apleni said the measures were also put in place for the upcoming 2013 African Cup of Nations tournament.
He said the South African Police Service and the South African Revenue Service will also be deployed to ensure a safer festive season at the borders.
