Two killed in CT shack fires
Hundreds of people have been displaced due to shack fired in various parts of Cape Town.
CAPE TOWN - Two people have died and 400 others were left homeless after several shack fires across Cape Town at the weekend.
Some 118 shacks were gutted in the New Rest informal settlement in Nyanga on Sunday.
More than 360 people were also displaced.
A 30-year-old man and 38-year-old woman died in the blaze.
About 50 people were also displaced in shack fires in Muizenberg and Strand.
Cape Town Disaster Risk Management spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said officials will investigate the cause of the fires.
"At this stage, it is unclear how the fires started. The South African Police Service has opened inquest into the incident."
