Police impersonator found dead in cell
An alleged police impersonator Musa Khumalo was found dead in his cell on Saturday.
PRETORIA - Wanted criminal and alleged police impersonator Musa Khumalo was found dead at his cell in the Pretoria North Police Station on Saturday.
Khumalo was arrested for murder in Johannesburg, but escaped police custody and fled to Durban.
He was re-arrested for another crime and managed to abscond for that crime.
Khumalo was wanted for murder, escaping from police custody and impersonating a cop.
He was found in Pretoria in August after months of searching.
It is unclear whether his death was a suicide or if foul play is suspected.
Khumalo, a Zimbabwean national, managed to secure a South African passport, and spent an unknown amount of time impersonating a brigadier in KwaZulu-Natal.
He has also claimed to have been dispatched by National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega and helped solved several cases.
He allegedly had links to a car theft and hijacking syndicate in KZN after fleeing from Johannesburg police custody.
