JOHANNESBURG - Governor Gill Marcus reiterated on Wednesday there will be no nationalising of the Reserve Bank.

She was addressing delegates at the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) pre-bargaining council conference in Randburg.

The metalworkers union has been pushing for the bank to become state owned, but Marcus said the bank's independence assured its credibility.

The Governor also again dismissed calls for the Rand to be fixed at a level that would benefit consumers and exporters.

But Marcus said there would be no interference in the currency.
