RUSTENBURG - The Hawks on Thursday arrested another man believed to be part of a rhino poaching syndicate in the North West Province.

A Mozambican national was cornered in an informal settlement near Rustenburg.

Hawks spokesperson Paul Ramaloko said the man is believed to be part of the same syndicate responsible for poaching eight rhino at the Finfoot Lake Reserve last week.

"We found him in possession of a number of ammunition, around 200,000 in Mozambican currency and a stolen vehicle. He is in police custody."

Ramoloko said the man will be appearing at the Rustenburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.

At least 588 rhino have already been poached in South Africa this year alone.
