'Shocking' testimony given in Modimolle case
A neighbour described the day she found Ina Bonette tied up in Johan Kotze's house.
JOHANNESBURG - The woman, who found and freed the victim of the man dubbed the Modimolle monster, on Wednesday, testified she was shocked at Ina Bonette's condition.
Johan Kotze has admitted to torturing and mutilating his estranged wife in January.
He is also accused of ordering three men to rape her and of murdering her son, Conrad.
Vivian van der Merwe told the court she went to Kotze's house on the day of the incident after he called her husband to say he was leaving town.
She said she was shocked to discover Bonnette tied up with blood on the chest.
Van der Merwe said Bonette told her three men had raped her and that her son had been shot.
She said the extremely traumatised Bonette insisted they go to the police station as quickly as possible because Kotze was on his way to her parent's house.
Earlier this week, Bonette took the stand.
She recounted how Kotze tortured her while telling her he loved her.
She said the three men, Andries Sithole, Pieta Mohlane and Frans Mphaka, took turns raping her.
The alleged rapists pleaded not guilty saying they were forced to participate.
