Generous Sisulu gets critic a gift
DA MP David Maynier has received an early Christmas gift from the public services minister.
CAPE TOWN - Democratic Alliance (DA) Member of Parliament (MP) David Maynier and minister Lindiwe Sisulu might be at each other's throats in Parliament, but the political opponents have not lost their sense of humour.
The former defence minister sent Maynier a cheap calculator for Christmas gift with a note explaining that it was meant to help him count properly after he accused Sisulu of flying 203 times on a private jet at the taxpayers' expense.
Sisulu maintains she only took 35 flights and told Maynier during a heated exchange in Parliament that he had a flea-infested body.
Maynier was not expecting anything for Christmas from Sisulu.
"I was surprised to receive a Christmas gift because last year, I noted that the minister had been abroad shopping for a new VIP jet for the president. I asked her whether indeed she had considered buying me a Christmas present and she replied in Parliament with an absolute flat no."
Maynier now wants to return the favour.
"One option that I am considering would be a flight on Kulula."
The DA MP is also thinking of giving the calculator to the current defence minister, who he says seems to have lost count of just how many chartered flight Sisulu took.
