JOHANNESBURG - Three of the alleged robbers wounded during a shootout with police in Robertsville on Saturday night were on Sunday released from hospital and into police custody.

Nine men were admitted to hospital with gunshot wounds while seven others were shot dead when they tried to break into a coin cash depot.

The police said they were verifying if the 11 vehicles used in the botched heist had been stolen.

"We have 11 vehicles that were involved and we are busy circulating them," said the Hawks' Paul Ramoloko.

"We have four firearms that we are also circulating."

Police said the group of men tried to rob three other businesses in the area before they hit the depot.

The men were armed with pistols and assault rifles.
