PRETORIA - The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) on Thursday officially announced its ANC leadership candidates ahead of the Mangaung conference in December.

The league revealed Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe to lead the party at its 53rd congress in the Free State.

As expected, President Jacob Zuma featured nowhere in the league's list of nominees.

Youth league leader Ronald Lamola said its decision was not an anti-Zuma one but rather a process to renew the structures of the ANC.

Current Treasurer-General Matthews Phosa was nominated as Vice President while Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula has been nominated as Secretary-General.

The youth league also nominated Tokyo Sexwale as Treasurer-General.

Lamola said the main task is to now convince all nine provinces to nominate the youth league candidate list.

The ANC leadership conference in Mangaung will kickoff on 16 December.
