'Modimolle monster' has foggy memory
Johan Kotze’s lawyer claims his client passed out and cannot remember everything about the attack.
PRETORIA - The lawyer for the man dubbed the 'Modimolle monster' on Thursday said his client cannot remember everything about the day he attacked his estranged wife.
Johan Kotze's lawyer, Bernard Bandjies, told the North Gauteng High Court that his client admitted to torturing and mutilating Ina Bonnette.
But Kotze denies inflicting all the injuries she says she sustained.
Kotze is also accused of hiring three men to rape her and kill her son, Conrad Bonnette.
Bandjies said Kotze lost all control on the day of the attack and was apparently furious at Bonnette for allegedly cheating on him.
The lawyer added his client could not remember all the events of the day in question because he passed out several times.
Kotze did however admit to causing an injury to one of Bonnette's breasts.
When Conrad arrived home, Kotze allegedly found his gun by chance on his way to open the door.
Kotze says that when Conrad demanded to know where his mother was, he got a fright and a shot went off.
He stumbled out of the house and left.
