‘Kotze lied about cancer’
Ina Bonette described to the court how her relationship with the ‘Modimolle monster’ broke down.
PRETORIA - The alleged victim of the man dubbed the 'Modimolle monster' has described to the North Gauteng High Court why their relationship broke down, before she was attacked in January.
Johan Kotze's estranged wife, Ina Bonette, had to take a mid-morning break after being grilled by defence attorney Bernard Bantjes.
He asked her about discrepancies in her statement, her testimony and a medical report.
Bonette described her relationship with Kotze and how she moved out of their home ten months before the attack, allegedly because he verbally abused her continually.
When Kotze asked her if they could try again, she moved back into their home because he said he had been diagnosed with leukemia and was dying.
Bonette said she then made some inquiries and found the diagnosis to be false.
She became very uncomfortable.
Kotze is accused of hiring three men to gang rape and mutilate Bonette.
The suspects are also accused of murdering her 19-year-old son, Conrad Bonnette.
