Pretoria state attorney ‘misspent’ R64m
The Pretoria state attorney head allegedly misspent over R64 million in government funds.
JOHANNESBURG - Eyewitness News can reveal that the head of the state attorney's office in Pretoria allegedly misspent over R64 million in government funds on excessive and unwarranted legal fees.
This and several other explosive claims are contained in the charge sheet against Moipone Mosidi, which is now before the North Gauteng High Court.
Mosidi approached the court on an urgent basis on Monday, in an attempt to stop her disciplinary hearing from beginning until she can secure finance for her legal battle - a ruling will be handed down on Tuesday.
According to the charge sheet signed by the director-general of the Department of Justice, Nonkululeko Sindane, Mosidi faces ten charges of misconduct.
Mosidi is accused of either condoning or colluding with other state attorneys to abuse the power to appoint private attorneys or brief advocates.
Her conduct in a case involving the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform is the focus of the charges – it’s claimed she advanced the interests of the other party involved rather than her own clients'.
Over R64 million was spent by the state attorney's office on lawyers in the case – Mosidi allegedly attempted to conceal this.
Mosidi’s lawyers yesterday argued for her disciplinary hearing to be halted or postponed.
She declined to comment through her lawyers.
