EMPD won't comment on airport eviction
The EMPD says it is business as usual at OR Tambo Airport despite being evicted from their offices.
JOHANNESBURG - The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) on Saturday refused to comment on being evicted from their offices at the OR Tambo International Airport, saying an investigation into alleged debt must be conducted to determine what went wrong.
The Saturday Star is reporting that the Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) had given the department a final warning to pay its rent last week.
After months of outstanding payments 40 officers arrived at the airport to find their offices locked up on Friday.
EMPD's Vusi Mabanga was only willing to comment on security at the airport.
"I wouldn't know much about eviction but what I know is that our officers are being deployed and they are executing their duties as normal at the airport."
