Vela VKE to investigate Linkin Park accident
The City of Cape Town has named the structural engineering firm to investigate the Linkin Park accident.
CAPE TOWN - The City on Friday appointed a structural engineering firm and wind shear expert to investigate this week's freak accident outside Cape Town Stadium.
Florentina Heaven Popa died and several other people were injured when an advertising scaffolding tower collapsed on Wednesday evening just an hour before the Linkin Park concert.
City spokesperson Solly Malatsi said, "The city has appointed the structural engineering firm, Vela VKE, to conduct the probe. They'll have to establish the circumstances that led to the incident."
Meanwhile, one victim is expected to undergo surgery at Groote Schuur Hospital later.
Linkin Park has since sent condolences to the family of the victim.
The U.S. band will perform in Soweto on Saturday.
Security has been beefed up at the venue to prevent any accidents.
At the same time, Lucozade has pulled out as the official sponsor of the tour in SA.
