Duminy out of OZ tour
Proteas batsman JP Duminy has been ruled out of action until 2013 after rupturing his left Achilles tendon.
CAPE TOWN - Proteas batsman JP Duminy's been ruled out of the tour against Australia after he ruptured his left Achilles tendon.
The injury occurred during a fitness training drill after the opening day at the Gabba. MRI scans confirming the injury.
The team doctor, Mohammed Moosajee confirmed Duminy will undergo surgery.
"An MRI was done which confirmed the diagnosis. JP will have surgery done tomorrow at about 7:30am, where he will have his ruptured Achilles tendon reattached."
Moosajee said Duminy will only return to action in 2013.
"Obviously JP is quite disappointed, but he remains positive and upbeat. For now, the recovery period is expected to be somewhere between three to six months."
Meanwhile, the Proteas are in control of the first inning after closing the day at 255/2.
Jacques Kallis made 84 and Hashim Amla scored 90 runs.
The two batsmen will continue on Saturday.
