Independent team to probe Linkin Park accident
Authorities will appoint an independent team to investigate the deadly accident at Cape Town Stadium.
CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town on Thursday said it was busy establishing an independent task team to investigate Wednesday night's accident at the Linkin Park concert.
One person died, one seriously injured and at least 10 others were hospitalised after an advertising sign board became unhinged due to gale force winds outside the concert at the Cape Town Stadium.
City Mayor Patricia de Lille said an independent internal investigation will get underway by the close of business.
She said investigation will be headed by a structural engineering team.
When asked about the details about the firm, she said the procurement process is still being finalised.
However, she hopes an appointment will be made by Thursday afternoon.
De Lille also conveyed her condolences to the families of those affected and she said she spoke to a family member of the deceased woman.
She did not provide her identity, saying the family requested privacy as the next of kin must still be informed.
Meanwhile, Linkin Park has also sent their condolences.
