City of Joburg changes banks
Municipal officials assure residents the change won't cause account problems.
JOHANNESBURG - The City of Johannesburg has moved to assure people that its decision to change banks will not cause chaos or result in money being paid to the wrong accounts.
The city's Gabu Tugwana on Thursday responded to a report claiming that the council had failed to inform people of its swap over to Standard Bank.
Tugwana said open days were held, the media were told and most importantly, ratepayers still have four months to get to grips with the change.
"People were personally informed and there are also notices on the walls of walk-in centres."
Tugwana said arrangements have been made with all banks to make sure payments are automatically redirected.
