Municipal by-elections underway
IEC has urged voters in 15 wards across the country to cast their ballot in by-elections.
PRETORIA - The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on Wednesday urged voters in 15 wards across the country to cast their ballot in by-elections.
The polls opened at 7am and will remain open until 9pm tonight.
Municipal ward by-elections are being held in eight provinces, including Gauteng, where a total of 15 wards will be contested by 50 candidates.
Wards in Mogale City, Randfontein, Johannesburg and Tshwane are being contested.
Only the Tshwane ward, located in Hammanskraal in the north of the municipality, is held by the ANC while the Democratic Alliance will vie to retain the seats in the remaining three wards.
In most instances, by-elections have been called because of a death of a councillor.
