Police monitor De Doorns

Police are monitoring De Doorns after protestors blocked off the N1 highway.

Police.

CAPE TOWN - Western Cape police on Tuesday said they will continue to monitor the situation in De Doorns following a chaotic protest affecting farmers.

Hundreds of people believed to be farm employees or job seekers blocked the N1 highway on Monday between De Doorns and Touws River before dispersing late in the day.

Protestors set fire to some vineyards along the highway as they demonstrated over a lack of jobs.

Agri Western Cape's Porchia Adams said they still do not know who initiated the protest.

"The instigators have not come forward. There are masses of people running around and nobody is taking ownership for the protest."
