CT shack fires leave one dead, 16 displaced

CAPE TOWN - One person died and 16 people were displaced when their shacks burnt to the ground in separate fires across Cape Town.

In the Nyandeni Crescent in Khayelitsha, a man died and four others were left homeless when a fire broke out on Friday night.

Cape Town Disaster Management spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said another blaze occurred in Frankdale.

"Another fire in Frankdale left four people displaced."

In Phillipi, an early morning fire destroyed three shacks leaving eight people homeless on Saturday.

Solomons-Johannes said disaster services were assessing the damage.
