JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) on Thursday suspended a chief invigilator at a Soweto school, after he lost a box containing twenty physical science exam question papers.

The department says the man, who is the headmaster at Phefeni Senior Secondary School, was responsible for collecting the papers and claims he forgot the box on top of his car.

GDE spokesperson Charles Phahlane said the exam was delayed.

"We have a rapid respond mechanism which is put in place to deal with any exam-related incidents - this mechanism kicked-in immediately."

Phahlane said an investigation into the matter was underway, to probe the circumstances around the missing papers.
