CAPE TOWN - There is no chance of Jean de Villiers starting in the Currie Cup final, Western Province coach Allister Coetzee confirmed on Thursday.

Last week, de Villiers suffered a hamstring injury which means he will not be able to play for the remainder of the competition.

Earlier this week, the player had a run around during training and he will be travelling with the team to Durban.

Coetzee said he is not big on surprises.

"You might doubt me on other things, but [de Villiers] will not be playing."

Western Province captain Deon Fourie said the wet weather will play a significant role during scrum time.

Province will field a relatively young pack, with an all under-21 front row, while the Sharks will field a Springbok-laden front row.

Fourie said their pack is experienced enough to handle the pressure.

"We must not get into a downward spiral with our first scrum. We only have 80 minutes to win the game."
