JOHANNESBURG - Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) on Sunday said it has started discussions with unions to facilitate the return of thousands of workers at its North West mines.

Amplats is still recording attendance figures of less than 20 percent at its mines in Rustenburg and Amandelbult.

The miners' strike committee said all workers were willing to return to their posts on condition that those who were fired be reinstated with no questions asked.

The mine's Mpumi Sithole said the issues of the dismissed 12,000 employees will form art of the discussions with unions.

Miners were fired after embarking on an illegal strike over three weeks ago.
