Tribunal setup for Hlophe
A tribunal has been setup to investigate Judge John Hlophe.
JOHANNESBURG - Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe's lawyer on Friday said it had been confirmed by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) that a tribunal will be appointed.
The tribunal will investigate whether Hlophe did his work expeditiously or not.
It's understood the JSC decided on Wednesday night to establish the tribunal, but the commission is yet to confirm this.
The allegations against Hlophe stem from a 2008 complaint made by the judges of the constitutional court that Hlophe sought to improperly influence the outcome of judgments.
Hlophe faces impeachment if found guilty.
His lawyer, Barnabus Xulu said they expect the Chief Justice to quickly appoint the tribunal so this matter can be laid to rest.
"The Chief Justice has not yet appointed, but if we have problems with the selection, we will certainly oppose it"
