Gold Fields KDC West miners end strike
Gold Fields on Friday said 11,000 of its employees returned to work at its KDC West operation.
JOHANNESBURG - Management at Gold Fields on Friday said 11,000 of its employees returned to work at its KDC West operations on Gauteng's West Rand.
Miners embarked on an illegal strike over wages on Sunday.
However, Gold Fields spokesperson Willie Jacobsz said 8,500 workers from its KDC East operations were still on strike.
Workers are demanding management increase basic salaries to R 12,500.
On Thursday, 1,500 striking miners were dismissed at KDC West after they failed to meet a 2pm deadline to return to work.
They have until 2pm today to appeal their dismissals.
Gold Fields has lost over R1billion in revenue due to wildcat strikes.
